Social & Community Events
Connecting with neighbors and working together is at the heart of the Nebagamon Lake Association. During the summer, we host events that blend the vital business of protecting our lake with opportunities to socialize and celebrate our community.
Annual Membership Meeting
Held each summer, the NLA Annual Membership Meeting brings members together to conduct association business, discuss lake health initiatives, review the budget, and vote on association leadership. It also provides an opportunity for shore owners to connect with neighbors, share ideas, and strengthen our lake community. It’s the perfect kickoff to the lake season.
Summer Social
Later in the summer, NLA hosts our annual Summer Social. This casual, highly anticipated event is focused on food and fellowship. Whether it is a gathering at a local favorite like Norwood Acres or a lakeside picnic at the YMCA Camp Tall Pines, the Summer Social is our way of celebrating our community, catching up with neighbors, and enjoying the best of Lake Nebagamon together.
Volunteer & Project Days
NLA volunteers work together on projects that protect Lake Nebagamon, including shoreline restoration efforts to boat launch monitoring and AIS prevention.
NLA coordinates year-round projects to identify and remove harmful invasive species. Working in partnership with Douglas County Aquatic Invasive Species, Lake Nebagamon Garden Club, and the Northwoods Cooperative Weed Management Area (NCWMA), we are offering our abilities to identify and remove invasive species to our community.
- Curly-leaf Pondweed (CLPW). For numerous years, we have spent days removing CLPW from Minnesuing Creek near the Homestead Land bridge, which is about 0.5 mile from Lake Minnesuing and about 1.5 miles Lake Nebagamon. With assistance from a local Boy Scout Troop #212, Nebagamon Camp for Boys and Zack Stewart (Douglas County Invasive Species Coordinator), all the CLPW found was removed.
- Yellow Flag Iris. We handed out flyers about yellow flag iris and gave away native blue flag iris for people to plant on their shoreline.
- Zebra Mussels, Eurasian Water Milfoil, and Curly-leaf Pondweed. We continue to monitor boats to prevent these from entering our waters. And our efforts may prevent other species, like Spiny Waterfleas from entering our lake.
- Common Buckthorn. Envisioning a Buckthorn Free Nebagamon, we are highlighting the importance of identifying and removing buckthorn to local landowners. In November, we partner with Northwestern High School students to remove buckthorn on lakeshore land.
- Chinese Banded Snails. The summer of 2026 NLA organized several “Snail Snatch” days to assist our neighbors in collection invasive Chinese Banded Snails from their beach areas.
